 Outside the Beltway

Where’s The Press II

I’m watching, via TiVo delay, Fox Special Report. It was shown live at 6 Eastern–over six hous after the Drudge story broke. Not only has there been no mention but they continue to act as if Kerry is coasting to the nomination. I don’t get it.

About the Author: James Joyner is the publisher of Outside the Beltway and the managing editor of the Atlantic Council. He's a former Army officer, Desert Storm vet, and college professor with a PhD in political science from The University of Alabama. He lives just outside the Beltway in Alexandria, Virginia.

Maybe the media has gotten out of the "Politics of Personal Destruction" business?
Well, until another scintillating story about Bush's dental records emerges.

I found that curious too. And Shepard Smith didn't mention it either.

Has Drudge ever missed on a story like this? I don't remember an instance where he was wrong on a big, breaking story.

I think that the media is deathly afraid about being the first to report the story. All the major media outlets will not recognize Drudge's story, and they do not want to hear, "Fox News reports....".

Also, I saw a mock up of the National Enquirer cover that will report this tommorow.

Pardon me for essentially repeating a comment, but I've already seen the National Enquirer with this story when I was in the checkout at the grocery store. I almost wish I'd bought it.

Almost, but not quite.

Follow this link, Right Wing News says that the National Inquirer article had nothing to do with this scandal, they had other information on Kerry.

Yeah, I picked up the Inquirier waiting in the grocery lineup, oblivious to what was going on at Drudge. I thought it was sort of strange... as tabloid as they are, they do have a history of getting some of the big stories right.

And, it sure didn't stop major media outlets from picking up on the Rush/painkiller story when they broke it.

Wait for the infamous double standard.

The British papers are picking it up, which may sanitize the story enough for the American media. Friday night for the breaking news, or Monday, or never.
