WRONG ALLIES

WRONG ALLIES: It looks like we’ve sold the Kurds down the river–again. In exchange for belated overflight rights that we no longer particularly need, we’ve allowed the Turks to invade the Kurd territory in northern Iraq that we’ve been protecting, via Operation Provide Comfort and Operation Northern Watch, since the end of the first Gulf War. Considering that we’re going to war, at least partly, to rid the Iraqi people of tyranny, one would hope we’d treat the Kurds better.

About the Author: James Joyner is the publisher of Outside the Beltway and the managing editor of the Atlantic Council. He's a former Army officer, Desert Storm vet, and college professor with a PhD in political science from The University of Alabama. He lives just outside the Beltway in Alexandria, Virginia.
