Robert Garcia Tagorda wonders what the big deal is:

I’ve never understood how the New Year’s significance reaches the level of a noteworthy holiday. For Pete’s sake, it marks a temporal inevitability. Isn’t that a rather pitiful excuse for throwing streamers and otherwise acting a fool?
