Colorado Senate Candidate: “Tell Those Tea Party Dumbasses to Stop Asking About Birth Certificates”

Colorado Republican Ken Buck is apologizing for disapraging remarks caught on tape last month:

Insurgent Colorado Senate candidate Ken Buck is apologizing for a degrading remark he made about the Tea Party movement last month that was caught on tape by a Democratic tracker.

The Denver Post and 9News is expected to report Sunday night that Buck referred to the members of the Tea Party as “dumbasses” after a campaign event in Crowley, Colo. last month.

“Will you tell those dumbasses at the Tea Party to stop asking questions about birth certificates while I’m on the camera? God, what am I supposed to do?” Buck says on the tape, according to his campaign.

Buck campaign spokesman Owen Loftus told POLITICO that the candidate spent Sunday explaining and apologizing for the remark in interviews with the state’s two dominant news outlets.

“Ken points out he does gets frustrated at times with those individuals pushing those issues. He shouldn’t have cussed. He regrets the remark. He was venting his frustration to a Democratic tracker and he shouldn’t of,” said Loftus.

Frankly, I’m not sure what it is that Buck thinks he needs to apologize for. Is it now de rigueur in the Colorado Tea Party that even the birthers have to be taken seriously ?

Eh, what was the sin? Calling them “dumbasses” or demanding that they cease engaging in their God-given right to dumbassery?

  2. Jeff says:

nobody from the Tea Party asked for his apology … this was just the news outlets keeping the story alive …

  3. Tano says:

Wow – he really seems to have blown the response. Putting out the word about all his apologizing??? No Sister Souljah moment for you, Ken.
Its odd that he seems to feel that the mass of average voters wouldn’t be cheering on his “dumbass” comment.
Oh, sorry, I forgot,,,we are still in primary season.

How can anyone take the GOP seriously any more?

“Is it now de rigueur in the Colorado Tea Party that even the birthers have to be taken seriously ?”

Short answer: Not really. Longer answer: The GOP has fielded tremendously underwhelming candidates this year in CO. Despite anti-incumbent fever and all the bad juju for the Dems, a Republican candidate is going to need all the help he can get if he wants to win the election.

Pissing off the Tea Party folks, who let’s admit it are mostly disaffected Republicans, doesn’t help.

PS. The Tea Party folks have sent Tom Tancredo a letter asking him NOT to sabotage the Governor’s race, which seems to be his intention. I’m sure Governor Hickenlooper will thank them after the election.

I believe that should be “shouldn’t have.” I got marked down for this mistake in 3rd grade and still haven’t forgotten.

Anyway, he’s not talking about everyone in the Tea Party, just the dumbasses who ask about birth certificates.
