Connecticut Republican Hopeful Schlesinger Sued for Gambling Debts

If it wasn’t already, Alan Schlesinger’s campaign for Joe Lieberman’s Senate seat is toast. Kevin Rennie:

The Hartford Courant sent a bunker bomb in to Connecticut Republican U.S. Senate hopeful Alan Schlesinger’s flagging campaign today with revelations that the former legislator was successfully sued for thousands of dollars in casino debts he ran up in Atlantic City venues. Schlesinger’s campaign was rocked last week by the news that, among other things, he had gambled in a Connecticut Indian casino under an assumed name, Alan Gold. His luck will have run out now.

Word of his gambling debts will renew calls for Schlesinger to abandon his tattered candidacy. His falling fortunes caused much speculation Thursday on a successor candidate in the wake of a Quinnipiac poll showing Democrat challenger Ned Lamont leading incumbent Joseph Lieberman for the first time in the August 8th primary. Fainthearted Republicans who had declined to run in the spring, when they thought Lamont a minor protest candidate, are witnessing the rare second chance in the simultaneous declines of Lieberman and Schlesinger.

There’s not much of a Republican Party left in Connecticut. This certainly isn’t going to help.

I’m sure Bill Bennett will put in a good word for him.

Just another “family values” proven to be a hypocritical liar. You guys sure can pick them, but hey you still have joe in ct!

It doesn’t amaze me anymore that when someone who has vice(s) or skeletons in the closet and is a Republican, when exposed, is vilified by the left and held as an example of the entire Republican Party.

It doesn’t amaze me anymore that when someone who says or does something hateful, has vice(s), or skeletons in the closet and is a Democrat, when exposed, is championed by the left or is never an example of the entire Democrat Party.

Well, fersboo, you guys have the White House, the House, the Senate, and an increasing share of the Judiciary under your control. When a Republican trips over his d*ck, it (a) has a greater impact on society, and (b) automatically gets more limelight. That’s why Clinton’s BJ generated such a firestorm at the time…

  5. Len says:

The Republicans never intended to run a candidate in this race. They’ve picked their horse: Joe Lieberman.

  6. madmatt says:

Hey legion…within days of the william jefferson bribe issue leadership on the dem side of the aisle was calling for his ouster…show similar actions on the rethug side!!!!

  7. Fersboo says:

Nice try madmutt. How has the Democrat party handled Cynthia McKinney, William ‘In the freezer’ Jefferson, David Bonior, Jim McDermott, etc., etc., ad nauseum. If you weren’t already neutered, you’d post some examples of ‘Rethugs’ not disciplined (for real actions, not the imaginary ones that liberals dream up everyday to soothe their empty minds) to prove your point.
