Conservative Media Stick With Coulter

Robert Bluey observes that, “Coulter’s syndicated column, which is released about 6 p.m. on Wednesdays, was printed tonight on three prominent conservative websites: Townhall, Human Events and WorldNetDaily.”

While dozens of right-of-center bloggers (not to mention all the leading contenders for the Republican nomination) condemned Coulter’s remarks, all indications are that she’ll be back at CPAC 2008 as well. Bluey is right about the reason: “Coulter is a huge draw and a moneymaker, giving her the upper hand even when she’s under attack.”

Then again, as Kevin McCullough documents, Coulter is getting plenty of brushback from the most prominent TownHall bloggers and columnists. Granted, all they’re asking for is an “apology,” but it’s something.

Further, Salem Media (which owns Townhall, Human Events, RedState, and lots of talk radio stations) and WND are simply in the money-making business. I don’t blame them for putting on content that draws an audience and thus advertising revenue.

Coulter has every right to make a living spouting vitriolic nonsense. Lord knows, there’s a market for it. My only hope is that conservative institutions like CPAC/ACU, the Republican Party, and others will keep her off their platforms. Giving her their imprimatur diminishes them.

Well, we’re the ones being tarred by the association. It is, therefore, our mess to clean up.

It is a mess to clean up but it’s not that bad. Worse things have been said by worse people.

Get her on track and on point, she’s a talented person who has post her way. Crucifying her will embolden the liberals and weaken conservatives.

That strongly reminds me of “But C.W. Bill Young, R-Fla., former chairman of the House Appropriations Defense Subcommittee, said he stopped short of going public with the hospital’s problems to avoid embarrassing the Army while it was fighting wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.”

Demanding proper medical treatment for wounded soldiers in the richest country of the world appearantly might embolden the enemy too. For some morality is a very flexible notion.
