Debbie Schlussel: I Hope Lara Logan Enjoyed Her “Liberation”

Conservative blogger Debbie Schlussel joins Nir Rosen and Jim Hoft in playing “blame the victim” over Lara Logan’s brutal assault on the streets of Cairo:

I just love it when the people of the profession of “the public’s right to know” suddenly want “privacy.” Tell it to your next interview subject, Lara. Of course CBS has no further comment. Wouldn’t wanna impugn the “peacefulness” of “Religion of Peace” animals, would we? Now, if they were Christians or Jews, well, then there would be comments galore.

So sad, too bad, Lara. No one told her to go there. She knew the risks. And she should have known what Islam is all about. Now she knows. Or so we’d hope. But in the case of the media vis-a-vis Islam, that’s a hope that’s generally unanswered.

This never happened to her or any other mainstream media reporter when Mubarak was allowed to treat his country of savages in the only way they can be controlled.

Now that’s all gone. How fitting that Lara Logan was “liberated” by Muslims in Liberation Square while she was gushing over the other part of the “liberation.”

Hope you’re enjoying the revolution, Lara! Alhamdilllullah [praise allah].

Pretty disgusting, Debbie.

  1. Matt says:

The statements by her and Hoft are pretty disgusting. Anderson Cooper getting cuffed around is mildly humorous, mob sexual assault, not so much.

  2. mantis says:

Everything about that woman is disgusting. Why anyone links to her, I have no idea.

  3. JD says:

    Absolutely horrible…

  4. John S says:

Sorry, I’m with Debbie on this one. Lara had no business being in the country, no less wandering around after dark in a mob in an ungoverned Muslim country. Political correctness does not trump stupidity.

  5. mantis says:

Sorry, I’m with Debbie on this one.

    Fine company you keep.

  6. kelvin says:

truth usually is disgusting. which is why so many people hide there heads in the sand to not see it. spot on debbie

  7. Lisa says:

Wow…you are a real piece of work – as if the same brutal type of attack couldn’t have occurred in many parts of the United States. Disgusting excuse to call the followers of an entire religion “savages”.

  8. Steven Plunk says:

Too harsh. No one was ‘liberated’ in this case and making such a statement is callous.

There is a real argument to be made that she should not have been there but there is also an appropriate way to make that argument. Civility seemed to have slipped away from a lot of people regarding this.

  9. An Interested Party says:

“There is a real argument to be made that she should not have been there…”

    And that argument would be…?

  10. wr says:

“She should not have been there.”

She was a journalist reporting on a story. That’s what journalists do. They go places and see and hear things and often put themselves at risk.

I’m not sure whether you think journalists should all report from their basements like the intrepid warriors at National Review, or you just believe that a woman’s place is in the home, and it serves her right tor trying to be a man.

Either way, you are, once again, completely wrong. There is no “real argument” to make that she shouldn’t have been there.

  11. PD Shaw says:

I usually ignore the ranting of the fringe, but this was so contemptible that I had to come back and read it again. It’s almost an eloquent amalgamation of date-rape-justification and ethnic-hate-speech. Eloquent is not quite the word, she’s doing something very well that is despicable.

  12. Steven Plunk says:

Anytime someone precludes making a rational argument you have to wonder.

The most obvious argument against reporters, any reporter male or female, putting themselves at risk is what happened here, injury or death. Some stories regardless of how noble are not worth getting killed over.

If some want to reduce it to the absurd and ask if reporters should only report form their basements then I guess they can look foolish making that argument because I’m not. There is risk and reward in any endeavor and sometimes the risk of getting the story is just too high. File your report from Cairo maybe but not necessarily from the middle of a riot.

Completely wrong eh? I guess dealing in nothing but absolutes only allows that position as unrealistic as it is. Is grown up debate not possible with some of you?

  13. rob miller says:

    Islamic law states :
:that an infidel captured in combat -woman or man- is expected to be sexually and physically abused even to the point of death
:an infidel prisoner has no rights or protection under Allah.
:that a muslim husband will not be questioned for beating his wife
:that a muslim increases his worth in the eyes of allah the more wives he takes
:that a disobedient wife can be beaten and divorced
:that in cases of infedelity the woman is always punished( a 14 year old “bride” was sentenced to 100 lashes on her back for being accused of infidelity, she died after 80 lashes were administered)
:that marriages may be arranged regardless of age differences and that any arranged marriage can be consummated after the “bride” reaches age 9(nine).
:that there is a special form of dowry paid by the “bride” that gives the “husband” temporary sexual use of the “bride’, essentially the muslim version of legalized prostition.
Are you getting some of the picture?
Miss Logan was supposed to be right there, that is her job. If she failed to recognize the risk she has no one to blame but herself- she is a professional. I feel bad for her but no more so than a wildlife photographer that gets attacked by an alligator. If she recognized the risk and went there anyway , well, I am glad she wasn’t killed and I hope what facts she gathered are worth her sufferings. This was not a case of mob violence- those muslim men were taught from an early age that captive women may be abused without fear of retribution.

  14. Angela says:

It’s not hard to see why the victim tried to keep this out of the papers, is it?

Everybody wants to use her as some sort of a statement.

  15. Replica says:

I hope someone rapes Debbie Schlussel.

  16. anjin-san says:

    > Some stories regardless of how noble are not worth getting killed over.

In your book. Stay home and watch it on TV. If a reporter is willing to place themselves in harms way to get the job done I would say it is their business, not yours. But by all means, continue to whine about “grown up debate”.

  17. anjin-san says:

    > So sad, too bad, Lara. No one told her to go there. She knew the risks. And she should have known what Islam is all about. Now she knows.

Pretty vile and hateful, even by fringe right standards. At any rate, there is no evidence that Muslims are more given to rape than say, a run of the mill American. In fact there is evidence to the contrary.

    Rapes per capita by country:

    #9 United States: 0.301318 per 1,000 people

Now look for a nation dominated by Islam:

    #48 Tunisia: 0.0331514 per 1,000 people

  18. Franklin says:

Some stories regardless of how noble are not worth getting killed over.

In your opinion, maybe. As I keep saying, reporters getting the story may be considered brave or stupid, but I’m still thankful for them.

And unlike Schlussel and John S and apparently Plunk, too (I would’ve thought you’d know better), Logan didn’t deserve this.

  19. Franklin says:

EDIT: “unlike Schlussel and John S and apparently Plunk think

Otherwise it appears that I am suggesting they deserve what Logan got, which is not what I meant.

  20. Franklin says:

Here’s my point, perhaps more succinctly: the bigots who hate all Muslims think it’s some big surprise to the rest of us that misogyny is more prevalent in Islamic countries than it is in America. Guess what? It’s not a surprise. Mostly because we understand the link between religious fundamentalism and misogyny.

The sick thing about all this is that you think just because misogyny is more prevalent in Islamic countries and you need everybody to acknowledge it repeatedly, Lara Logan deserves to get sexually assaulted. Your logic doesn’t really make sense to me, but whatever.

  21. Franklin says:

Replica:I hope someone rapes Debbie Schlussel.

No you don’t. You hope that someday, Debbie Schlussel will become enlightened. Don’t hold your breath.

  22. Svensker says:

What a racist piece of crap DS spewed. I hope she is shunned until she learns better.

  23. womenfound says:

What a clue-less, racist writer with tragically limited understanding of the issues upon which she so boldly opines.

  24. tom madden says:

you give freedom of speech a bad name

  25. peter jones says:

So Lara got raped, boo-hoo. What did she expect, they’re Arab animals and they’re Muslim animals.

Wake up and smell the coffee, liberal bitch.

    ps. any pictures?

  26. Sylvester Bazzi says:

How could anyone, as a human being ever say that someone who has been violated, deserved it? She is a reporter doing her job. If your mother, sister, aunt, daughter, friend or anyone you knew or loved was raped, would you ever say they deserved it? I don’t care what your political views are. You are a monster. You spread hate and racism around, causing harm to others for their religious beliefs, now for doing their jobs. Where did you come from? Do you have a mother or were you raised by pigs? How do you sleep at night knowing that the things you say cause harm to others? I have heard that you are representing scum attempting to sue Dearborn Schools for sexual harrassment. Are you aware that one of your clients is 15 years old and one her 15th sex partner? Won’t that sound good when you stand before the court trying to make your client sound innocent? Or wait, maybe it’ll be her fault just like it was Ms.Logans fault. What’s the difference pig???? I fully support everyone right to free speech. However, when it causes unnecessary harm to others such as you do, it should be censored. No, better yet, you should go on and on. It gives the rest of us a teaching tool for our children. So, go on with your bad self. You are a joke!

  27. Nan Bush says:

A whole nation of Muslim savages–let’s see, they were the ones who had just managed to keep their participation in the protests peaceful for more than a week? The ones who carefully went around the square doing cleanup duty with trash? The ones who stopped to pray? Maybe the women who went to Ms Logan’s rescue?
Mm. Ms Schlussel could use some work on her observation skills.

  28. A little honesty says:

Once every 2 minutes, a woman is raped in the U.S. Maybe we should look in the mirror, before painting another culture with such a broad, racist brush.

  29. Ivana Tinkle says:

SHE WAS NOT RAPED!! She was groped! Pity that the fact another reporter was shot and killed but her grab-ass story overshadoowed this.

She has a history of having affairs- while married and to married men, one resulting in a kid. Yup, pretty much guaranteed it killed that guy’s marriage. A sign of poor judgement/poor values.
So she was not raped. So that meant she was probably felt up. She is a horrible reporter, I think she contrived or embellished some sort of truth to hold on to her job or try to get sympathy to clear her image.
I am a woman so I do have the ability to sympathize an attack, but fabricating a story like this, given her low morals, wouldn’t surprise me.

  30. Ivana Tinkle says:
  31. T M Lynch says:

I’m guessing Ms. Schussel is jewish or maybe born in Isreal. Her statement seems a self-serving way to throw sticks and stones at arabs more than at Lara Logan. That Schussel is female and makes comments like this seems to be her style, as disgusting and insensitive as it is. This appears to be her ‘Don Imus moment’ and I hope she gets treated the same way.

  32. David Mitchell says:

Has Debbie had the surgery yet or is he a pre-op tranny?

  33. Leslie Petri says:

For all the folks saying that Ms. Logan ‘shouldn’t have been there,’ that’s the same disgusting excuse used by men everywhere for rape–if she didn’t ‘want it’ she wouldn’t have been— in a bar; out after dark; wearing those clothes; etc. Besides that, there is a big difference even between the “she shoulda seen it coming” tripe and what the disgusting pig Schlussel said. She didn’t just say Ms. Logan could have guessed it would happen–she reveled in and was happy that Ms. Logan was brutally assaulted, all because it helped make her own hate-filled and ridiculous point that Arabs are ‘animals.’ Porky Schlussel, as the descendent of WWII concentration camp survivors should realize that the same brand of hate she spouts (dehumanizing people and revelling in their misery) is EXACTLY what got 6 million Jews exterminated more than half a decade ago. May God have mercy on her wholly undeserving soul.

  34. vhh says:

I dug around on the web and discovered articles saying that the media have left out the following details of what happened to Lara Logan:

    1. She was there with he experienced crew.. Remember these folks cover war zones in the Mideast. You know, guns, bombs, blood, guts, etc. It’s their job, not a hobby or a vacation.

    2. Somehow she got separated from her team and dragged away by a mob of hundreds of men.

    3. Her clothes were ripped off and she was beaten, especially around the breasts.

    4. She was raped vaginally and anally by six men.

    5. Others masturbated on her nude body.

    6. A group of Egyptian women and soldiers rescued her.

    7. There exists video documenting some of the events.

I have no way of verifying this, but I expect some level of detail will come out in due course.

The wingnuts responsible for the web hate fest will have a lot ot ‘splainin’to do.

From what I have seen of her videos, Debbie Schlussel is tasteless and doesn’t sound all that bright.

  35. Jeffko says:

Debbie Schlussel will reap what she has sown. May God Bless all those who have posted here with grace abundantly and may He continue the road of education for those with hateful, cynical remarks.

A lot of these comments are downright anti-American and show a lack of maturity we see daily in our lives. The US right is simply wrong. And not very Godlike in their actions. Well, they are a bunch of Old Testament types…

  36. joe says:

How does she know the rapist scum were Muslims?

  37. Jim says:

Deb Schlusshel is a complete phony. A third rate blogger and lower than pond scum. Go to her site and note the empty boxes requesting ad money. She is nothing but a media ho!

  38. Bob K. says:

I was so outraged at her comments, i responded in her comments section that she was a :souless beggar”(requesting donations on her website)
After I made another comment about her begging for money and these saps were donatating to her for this rascist garbage—–she wrote that “rkell”.. trying to expose my email address has been” blocked because of his unhinged and inappropriate comments.”
If you see her on You Tube, her photo must be a High School prom photo and she has been seeking attention for years.
