Grover Norquist Joins Gay Conservative Group GOProud

Take it as  a further sign that homosexuality is becoming a far less divisive issue, even in conservative ranks:

Grover Norquist, the president of Americans for Tax Reform, has joined the advisory council of GOProud, the gay Republican group that recently — and unfortunately — drew attention when it was alternately derided and defended from the stage of CPAC. (The most notable critic, California activist Ryan Sorba, has unsuccessfully challenged GOP advisory board leader Tammy Bruce to a debate.)

In a statement going out later Tuesday, Norquist calls the group “an important part of the conservative movement.” No surprise there. Norquist has always made common cause with almost anyone on the right who’s fiscally conservative; his Wednesday meetings of the movement include representatives of social conservative groups who are at loggerheads with GOProud. Here you’ve got the fledgling gay group winning another seat at the table, and a leader of the conservative movement pulling the chair out for them.

Also joining the board: Margaret Hoover, a pundit and veteran of the George W. Bush administration, and the great-granddaughter of President Herbert Hoover.

GOProud, which seems to have started as a breakaway group from the more well-known Log Cabin Republicans, describes itself thusly:

GOProud represents gay conservatives and their allies.  GOProud is committed to a traditional conservative agenda that emphasizes limited government, individual liberty, free markets and a confident foreign policy.  GOProud promotes our traditional conservative agenda by influencing politics and policy at the federal level.

This is very much inside-the-conservative-movement baseball, but Norquist’s move seems to be further evidence that socially “liberal”/fiscally conservative Republicans are on the rise.

    Fabulous!

    What’s the pay?

Amazing, Norquist quietly converted to Islam to marry his wife, a Palestinian Hamas radical. Along with her, Grover Norquist has been on the Islamic payroll before and after the carnage of September 11, and they created something called the Islamic Institute and has ties to CAIR and the Muslim Brotherhood both known terrorist organizations.

So the Log Cabin Republicans are allowing a shill for terrorists who demand the imposition of sharia in the US, and the execution of gays and lesbians. Really bright..

Wonderful: These two entities deserve each other! Norquist is either a Muslim taqqiyist (as Mary asserts) or Dhimmi Number One (to whom President GWB tragically listened in the weeks following 911, ending up labeling Islam “a religion of peace” to his everlasting shame), and GOProud is apparently promoting the sodomite agenda. Funny thing is, as Mary also points out: Islam calls for the execution of “gays.” This “alliance” is obviously a temporary arrangement (think US and USSR during WWII). What binds both sides is a shared hatred of Christianity, Israel, and American traditions founded on Christian beliefs.

  5. Patrick says:

The requisite foundation for our system of liberty is a culture that supports it. Such a culture cannot be found in the countries of origin of Norquist’s wife, nor can it be found in the Euro-socialist states that are effectively ex-Christian secularist welfare states.

Norquist wants the ‘leave me alone’ groups to work together, and that is fine. But the terms of any truce within the conservative movement have to be this: Culture matters. The culture that supports freedom is individual responsibility and personal morality, backed by belief in the transcendent order. The foundation of freedom is moral values built on religious faith.
