Jon Huntsman Speaking At The Democratic Convention? Don’t Believe The Rumor

Someone at one of the Brietbart sites posted a story this afternoon that quickly went viral claiming that former Utah Governor and GOP Presidential candidate  Jon Huntsman, Jr. would be speaking at the Democratic National Convention. A revelation that seemed conveniently tied in to the report James Joyner wrote about this morning that some Republican(s) would be speaking at that convention. Predictably, the right side of Twitter erupted in a wave of indignation and vitriol directed at the former Governor.

The only thing is, it’s pretty clearly not true.

Within an hour after the story was published, his daughter Abby Huntsman posted this on her Twitter feed:

Then, her sister Liddy Huntsman chimed in:

So, yea, this seems like yet another “rumor” not worth believing. I post this only as a public service.

    Breitbart wrong? No way!

  2. David M says:

    Jon Huntsman Jr didn’t really like Romney, but I’m pretty sure he “endorsed” Mitt back when he dropped out of the race. I would think that would have put a damper on the rumor.

    Hahaha … it is classic.

    Nothing agitates wingnuts more than things they make up themselves.

  4. wr says:

    Amusing how definite Abby is that Jon Sr. is not Reid’s source.

    Just Jon Senior.

    Hmm, is there another moderate Mormon Republican with reason to despise Romney? Maybe someone without a senior after his name?

    Got to put some time into that thought…

    Breitbart wrong???
    Poor Jan…this is going to mess her up!!!

  6. Dave A says:

    The sad thing is that Jon Huntsman is a reasonable and intelligent politician who makes evidence based policy decisions. That should make him a republican frontrunner but instead it means that republicans create delusions in which he is a turncoat.

  7. Ron Beasley says:

    Perhaps it’s Huntsman the senior. He said today that Romney should release his tax returns when he knows he can’t.

    @Dave A:

    Huntsman position on immigration shows that he does not make decisions based upon evidence. Huntsman makes decisions based upon what the elite tell him to do.

    Look at how Huntsman was talking up environmental regulation while he was purchasing a huge house in DC to go along with all of his other homes. Huntsman has very little leadership ability and an almost inability to think past what passes for the conventional DC/NYC wisdom.

  9. It seems that all Obama needed to do was say “we’re going to have a Republican speak” and the Republicans promptly turned on each other like wild dogs.

    “cast out the unbelievers”

  10. superdestroyer says:

    @john personna:

    It would help if outsider Republicans could articulate their vision for the U.S. and how their policies support that. Any conservative should be running for as small a government as possible, as low a tax rate as possible, and for the government do perform its essential functions well. Huntsman supports policies that are the opposite of that.

    Romney does not do a good job either but at least Romney does not appear to let the left lead him around by the nose like Huntsman appear willing to do.
