Late Night OTB – Wasted Time

The Eagles had an all-time hit with this song in 1978. Alas, this isn't it.

What initially inspired this post was yet another Warren Haynes cover of a classic song:

The original, of course, was by the Eagles on their legendary album Hotel California. Despite its being four decades old, they’re apparently blocking it from YouTube. Go figure.

What’s interesting is just how many completely unrelated songs have the same title.

Europe had one in 1984:

There’s this 1991 song from Skid Row:

It doesn’t get more classic than Lionel Richie. Alas, his 2000 contribution to the “Wasted Time” canon is, well, well-named.

This 2003 number from Kings of Leon:

The French heavy metal band Virus contributed this in 2006:

Something called Fuel had this in 2007:

It’s very 2007.

The Holy Knights, of whom I had also never heard, put one out in 2012:

(It’s not bad if you’re into metal.)

And last year’s hit by Keith Urban:

So, now you know.

I’ll go with Warren on this one. Really good.

The title reminded me of “Wasted Days and Wasted Nights,” (Freddy Fender) and covered by the great Dough Sahm of the Sir Douglas Quintet

@al-Ameda: I was unaware of that cover—or that Fender originally wrote the song way back in 1959. I thought the 1975 version (along with “Before the Next Teardrop Falls”) was the work of a new artist.
