Line of the Day (Immigration Reform Edition)

“Having spent the summer howling about a catastrophe at the border, Republicans are now congratulating themselves for refusing to solve it.”—the NYT editorial board.

In fairness, that sentence should read “some Republicans” (or, perhaps, the Tea Party faction), although in further fairness it does seem as if that faction is the one driving the party at the moment.

Still, it is difficult to take howlers such as my own Senator, Jeff Sessions (R-AL) seriously when they treat the border situation as a massive threat but then, ultimately are willing to let nothing happened, which preserves the status quo.  This basic policy logic (the status quo is a horror, but our actions will only maintain the status quo) has driven the prevailing Republican policy logic (so to speak) on this topic for a decade or more.

(And yes, a last minute bill passed the House, but it is going nowhere).

    The decision of the Republicans could be that instead of resolving the issue by giving the Democrats a huge win, the Republicans just decided to not make the situation permanent and much worse for the people who actually vote for Republicans. When not going along with the Democrats is seen as refusing to deal with an issue then what choice to the Republicans have?

    Either the Republicans go along with whatever the Democrats want while being blamed for any failures in the future or the Republicans refuse to go along and the Obama Administration does whatever it wants to do anyway. All the immigration debate really does is show, once again, that the Republicans are irrelevant. They have no influence on policy and governance and can only serve as an excuse for the Democrats not getting 100% of what they want.

    Of course, as the democrats win more offices and dominant the government, I am sure that the Republicans will still be blamed for anything that does wrong. The Democrats are in a perfect political situation, they can get whatever policy they want, they can take 100% of the credit when it works, and can blame the Republicans for any failures. What a sweet spot the Democrats have in politics.

    GET READY FOR THE BATTLE ON ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION IN TOWN HALLS?

    CATCH EITHER LIBERAL-DEMOCRATS OR THE REPUBLICANS IN THEIR OWN CONSTITUENCY AND DEMAND THEY SEAL THE BORDER AND CUT OFF HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN YOUR MONEY IN SUPPORTING THE ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION INVASION?

    IF YOU ARE AGAINST OBAMAS POTENTIAL DEFACTO AMNESTY BY GIVING ILLEGAL ALIENS WELFARE, YOU’RE JOBS TO 6-8 MILLION ILLEGAL WORK PERMIT HOLDERS, THEN CONTACT WASHINGTON AND ANGRILY DRILL YOUR SENATORS AND HOUSE REPRESENTATIVE WHEN THEY ARRIVE IN YOUR HOMETOWN OR TOWN HALL MEETINGS SHORTLY.

    TELL THEM 25 MILLION AMERICANS ARE OUT OF A JOB, AND YOU WANT TO IMPORT MOSTLY ILLITERATE OR LESS THAN 8 GRADE PEOPLE AND YOU WANT TAXPAYERS TO SUPPORT THEM?
    TELL YOUR REPRESENTATIVES TO CURTAIL ANY KIND OF UNFETTERED SOCIAL SERVICES, FOOD STAMPS, HOUSING, MEDICAID OR ANY FUNDS FROM BEING TAKEN FROM THE TREASURY. REMEMBER THE PRESIDENT HAS NO ACCESS TO FINANCES, AS ONLY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CAN APPROVE OF FUNDS.

    If OBAMA EXECUTES HIS PROSECUTORIAL PRIVILEGE TO PASS ANY KIND OF AMNESTY, THE NEXT PRESIDENT OR CONGRESS CAN REVERSE THAT DIRECTIVE?

    THERE IS SUSPICION OF COLLUSION BETWEEN THE MAJOR PARTIES, SEEING THAT SPECIAL INTERESTS HAVE MASSIVE INFLUENCE OVER WASHINGTON. ONE SHOULD’NT FORGETS THAT BIG BUSINESS WANTS CARTLOADS OF CHEAP LABOR AND THE DEMOCRATS WANT THOSE MILLIONS OF EXTRA VOTES—LEGAL OR ILLEGAL. There is a massive increase from the American citizenry to seal the border and uphold enforcement since the present invasion–and they want it done now.

    Don’t let Obama and his Democratic Empire fool you, these are not just unaccompanied minors, but teenagers ranging in ages from 14-17 plus; some with gangster tattoos. Whole families with children and many pregnant mothers that have been suffocating the health care free for decades. Automatic citizenship for the newly born in an American establishment, in most instances allows the mother to stay. It’s a clever Ponzi scheme costing taxpayer into the billions. Nor are they just coming across the well-holed border, but flying in with undetected pregnancy, with intention to go home. The Automatic citizenship for babies must stop, under the misinterpreted 14th amendment—only for slavery.

    Foreign Nationals from South of our border, from other parts of the world are being drawn like iron filings, to a magnet. Our Hospitals are overloaded, along with our schools with children who have no knowledge of English. More attention drawn to them, than our own progeny that suffers.

    Its unconstitutional and a humiliation with lethal consequences. Demand Congress stops the death sentence of the US. Only candidates of the National TEA PARTY, moderate Conservatism will enforce immigration laws and follow the dictates of the Rule of Law, the Federal Registry and the US Constitution. We need National TEA PARTY candidates who will abide by the oath of allegiance to honor the Rule of Law and the vision of our founders, the US Constitution. Check this site that has the phone Numbers and Mailing Addresses of Members of Congress at: http://www.contactingthecongress/ to demand an end to illegal immigration and the dismantling of our military, which is our lifeblood against our enemies. This is the number for the central switchboard for Congress to address your grievances at 800-224-3121.

    @superdestroyer: If the Democrats have a sweet spot in politics it is because the Republicans have given it to them.

    It is one thing if a party fails to act in good faith occasionally, or even regularly on certain issues. The GOP is acting in bad faith on every issue, every time, which makes them terribly predictable. Outmaneuvering the GOP is as easy as imagining up the stupid, counterproductive and asinine way of behaving, and the adjusting your actions to take that into account. The GOP takes the bate every. single. time.

    The really make it too easy.

    Dave Francis you are little and helpless for sure. Citizen…not so much.

  5. Xenos says:

    @Dave Francis:

    We must Block amnesty for illegal aliens, which is entirely up to us—grassroots America—the little helpless citizens.

    Sorry, guys. The half of the country that are Democrats and Democrat-leaning independents are against you. Half of the Republican party is against you. You make up a around a quarter of the voting population, and a lot less than a quarter of the population under the age of 40.

    You have lost already. You are losers. 75% of the voting population thinks you are intolerant ignoramuses. About 85% of the population think you are mindless jerks, and look forward to your numbers dwindling down to less than 10% within 20 years, at which point you will not just be losers, but you will be mostly forgotten.

    Have fun with your temper tantrum, as the attention you get for it will not last.

  6. superdestroyer says:

    @Xenos:

    I take it you mean “acting in good faith” reallly means giving the Democrats whatever they want. The problem with the Republicans is that the people who give them large sums of money like Sheldon Adelson, want government policies that go against the people who actually vote for Republicans like middle class whites. The reason the Republicans fail every single time is that they try to split the difference between the two groups and alienate virtually everyone. Their Catch-22 is that there is no way the Republicans can survive by throwing either group under the bus but cannot survive trying to split the diffence between the two.

    Immigration is a perfect example. The big donors want open borders, unlimited immigration, and cheap labor even though such policies will destroy many of their middle class customers. The middle class whites want close borders and very limited imigration so that the job market is tighter, taxes are lower, and the public school are better. The idiots in the Republican Party like Jeb Bush try to split the difference by giving Sheldon Adelson want he wants while calling those middle class white voters racist. Thus, there is no doubt why the Republicans are failures and why the U.S. will soon be a one party state.

    That is their basic policy logic on dam near everything. The only exception is foreign policy, where their only idea is “invade” or “bomb the p!ss out of them.” But what does one expect from a party living in 1859? Originality?

  9. Neil Hudelson says:

    @Dave Francis:

    Let me try to address this truly phenomenal essay as it is written.

    *ahem*

    GET READY FOR THE BATTLE ON ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION IN TOWN HALLS?

    Your yelling intrigues me and makes me want to listen to you more. I don’t quite understand this question, but I’ll go ahead and answer “Yes.”

    What are we to do with the moderate Democrats? And are you asking if we will do this? Probably not. I’m really wanting to try frisbee golf this summer, so I’ll probably be busy that day.

    IF YOU ARE AGAINST OBAMAS POTENTIAL DEFACTO AMNESTY

    I’m against many potential things. Have you ever heard of the singularity? Scary shit. I’m against that too.

    BY GIVING ILLEGAL ALIENS WELFARE, YOU’RE JOBS TO 6-8 MILLION ILLEGAL WORK PERMIT HOLDERS

    By giving illegal aliens welfare, I am jobs? To 6-8 million illegal work permit holders? And these people who are getting my jobs…they are the ones also receiving welfare?

    THEN CONTACT WASHINGTON AND ANGRILY DRILL YOUR SENATORS AND HOUSE REPRESENTATIVE

    *giggle*

    TELL THEM 25 MILLION AMERICANS ARE OUT OF A JOB, AND YOU WANT TO IMPORT MOSTLY ILLITERATE OR LESS THAN 8 GRADE PEOPLE AND YOU WANT TAXPAYERS TO SUPPORT THEM?

    But I don;t want to import mostly illiterate. Why would I tell them I want to do that? That said…less than 8 of these ‘grade people” doesn’t seem like all too many. We can probably support 8 more, even if its taxpayer support.

    TELL YOUR REPRESENTATIVES TO CURTAIL ANY KIND OF UNFETTERED SOCIAL SERVICES, FOOD STAMPS, HOUSING, MEDICAID OR ANY FUNDS FROM BEING TAKEN FROM THE TREASURY.

    Well that just seems inefficient to keep all that in the treasury anyway.

    If OBAMA EXECUTES HIS PROSECUTORIAL PRIVILEGE TO PASS ANY KIND OF AMNESTY, THE NEXT PRESIDENT OR CONGRESS CAN REVERSE THAT DIRECTIVE?

    I think this is a serious question, and the answer is “Yes, yes they can reverse that directive.” We have a pretty good system that, when working properly, allows for changes in our government to respond to the current environment.

    Mmmm, those delicious illegal votes.

    on’t let Obama and his Democratic Empire fool you, these are not just unaccompanied minors, but teenagers ranging in ages from 14-17 plus;

    The rest of this must not be as important since it is in such hushed tones. I will go ahead and skip the rest.

  10. wr says:

    @superdestroyer: Why are white people better and more important than other Americans to you?

  11. ernieyeball says:

    @wr:.. Because they are pale of skin and straight of hair and don’t talk no jive. What’s wrong wit U fool?

  12. superdestroyer says:

    @wr:

    Where did I say that white are better and more important. I just noted that only whites vote for any form of a conservative party and that the establishment Republicans support policies that would harm the quality of life of middle class whites who are employed in the private sector.

    And no, there is no issue, no campaign, no candidate that is going to get a significant number of non-whites to vote for the more conservative party. Of course, the real question for progressives is why they think it is OK for the government to treat whites (and Asians) differently than it treats blacks and Latinos?

  13. C. Clavin says:

    @superdestroyer:

    And no, there is no issue, no campaign, no candidate that is going to get a significant number of non-whites to vote for the more conservative party.

    Actually…Obama and the Democrats are the most Conservative Party of the two major parties in America today…and a significant number of non-whites voted for them.
