Mark Sanford Planning Congressional Comeback Bid

Before he was Governor of South Carolina, Mark Sanford was a Congressman for six years. Now, he’s planning a bid to return to Capitol Hill to succeed Tim Scott, who will be elevated to the Senate early next year:

Former South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford is launching a political comeback that may begin within days.

Sanford is planning to run for the Congressional seat he held almost a decade ago, a Republican source familiar with his thinking told CNN late Thursday.

He’s looking all but certain to do it,” said a former top aide to Sanford, who did not want to be identified while prematurely revealing the plans.

A formal announcement will come soon, the source said.

Although the borders have changed over the years, Sanford represented the 1st Congressional District from 1995 through 2001. However, he won’t be the only candidate in the race and, as I noted yesterday, one potential candidate could be Sanford’s former wife Jenny, which would certainly make things interesting.

It bears repeating that there are just two kinds of people who vote Republican: millionaires and suckers. And it looks like there are a whole lotta suckers in SC…

He’s planning on working rock hard for his constituents. He doesn’t view the responsibilities of public service as some sort of fling. He’s also a legal expert, having recently engaged in stiff debates about real and personal property.

“Let’s get something straight between us. My thrust will be on economic recovery. I have penetrating insights into the crisis in the Middle East. I’ll be inserting myself into discussions of all the major issues. I stand on my record as a pubic servant.”

I read the headline, and I racked my brain: the toe tapping guy, or the sexting to the teenage page guy.

Then I opened the post and – aha! – the Appalachian Trail guy.
