Mary Cheney Donates to Anti-Gay Candidate

Mary Cheney, who is openly gay and raising two children with another woman, has given $500 to New Hampshire Senate candidate Kelly Ayotte, who is "against same-sex marriage and believes marriage is between a man and a woman."

Raw Story‘s Sahil Kapur reports that Mary Cheney, who is openly gay and raising two children with another woman, has given $500 to New Hampshire Senate candidate Kelly Ayotte, who is “against same-sex marriage and believes marriage is between a man and a woman.”

From this, I can only conclude:

  • Mary Cheney is a Republican
  • Gay marriage is not the only issue on her radar

Other explanations are welcome.

  1. Patrick T. McGuire says:

Being against same-sex marriage does not make a person anti-gay. It means that he/she believe that marriage involves one man and one woman only. Perhaps Mary Cheney agrees with that position.

Does that work for an alternative explanation?

Since this isn’t her father’s position I have no idea why it would be hers as well.

I wonder how many black people in the 50s gave donations to politicians who were in favor of segregation…to those who did, maybe segregation wasn’t the only thing on their radar…
