Michael Steele On The Laura Ingraham Show (Audio)

It was quickly revealed that the mystery person in Dana Milbank’s Washington Sketch column from earlier this week described only as a Republican Senate candidate “in one of the most competitive…races in the country” was none other than Lt. Governor of Maryland Michael Steele. Today, Steele appeared on the Laura Ingraham Show to talk about that column and refute Milbank’s characterization of his views. According to Steele, there are some rather large discrepancies between what he said and what Milbank wrote.

UPDATE (James Joyner): Taegan Goddard has an interesting post on this kerfuffle which concludes:

Today, the Maryland Democratic Party sent Political Wire a copy of an email between Steele’s communications director and Millbank giving approval for use of Steele’s quotes and discussing the terms of the story. The email makes clear Steele’s campaign knew about the story in advance and was even given the opportunity to approve the quotes in the story.

Goddard does not provide a reproduction of the emails but I take him at his word. Quite odd.

As that country philosopher Gomer Pyle used to say, “surprise, surprise, surprise”.

Odd? There’s nothing ‘odd’ about it, man. He instinctively lied to cover his a**. Then he got busted. It’ll be entertaining to see how he responds to being called out.
