Michelle Bachmann Raises $2 Million Since Starting Presidential Campaign

Michelle Bachmann’s campaign stated today that they had raised $4 million dollars for her Presidential campaign, in reality it was half that amount:

A source close to GOP presidential aspirant Rep. Michele Bachmann has told CBS News that Bachmann will report a little less than $4 million raised for her campaign in the second quarter. Bachmann, who kicked off her campaign in Waterloo, IA, on June 27, must report her second-quarter fundraising figures by Friday.

The $4 million total came from $2 million raised in the last two and a half weeks, and $2 million transferred from her Congressional account. Her main rival at this stage, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, raised about $18 million for his campaign from April through June. Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who is considered a contender despite staying out of the race so far, raised just $1.6 million in the first half of 2011.

President Obama collected $86 million for his re-election campaign and the Democratic Party in the last three months.

Now, two million dollars in two and a half weeks isn’t bad at all, of course, but there is some honesty required here. She didn’t raise $4 million, at least not for the Presidential campaign.
