MOST ANNOYING SONG

Brent at The Ville is soliciting comments on “the most annoying song ever written.” My entry: Nena, “99 Luftballoons.”

I posted my selections for The Worst 10 songs of the Last 25 Years in August. “Smells Like Teen Spirit” was actually deemed worse than “99 Luftballoons,” but it’s also on some people’s “best” lists, so I opted for strategery. My post was preceded by an OTB contest for the same category a couple days earlier. There is a lot of dreadful music in those lists!

Hat tip to Dodd Harris, who selected Eddie Money’s “Shakin'” — also an excellent choice.

You know, I seriously considered Nena in making my pick.

Paul McCartney/Michael Jackson – Say, Say, Say

  3. I’m hoping you wrote “strategery” on purpose.

    LMA: Yep.

I went over to nominate the obvious winner. “In the Year 2525.” It proved definitively that a song can both suck and blow at the same time, and it was played approximately 30 gazillion times.
