Nobody Seems To Know Where Arizona Governor Jan Brewer Is Right Now

Arizona Governor Jan Brewer has gone AWOL and her staff isn’t talking:

PHOENIX (AP) — Gov. Jan Brewer has taken a nearly week-long out-of-state work trip that was shrouded in secrecy Monday as she skipped an event to certify election ballots and her spokesman refused to disclose her location.

Brewer spokesman Matthew Benson said in a brief email to The Associated Press that Brewer was unavailable to participate in the general election canvass Monday morning because she was out of the state on official business.

“That is all I can disclose at this time,” Benson added.

He later reiterated that during a brief phone interview during which he said he could not respond to several questions about Brewer’s whereabouts.

Under the Arizona Constitution, Secretary of State Ken Bennett is the acting governor because Brewer is absent from the state.

Bennett said his office late Friday received the customary notification of Brewer’s absence.

Bennett spokesman Matt Roberts said the notification sent by a Brewer scheduling aide said the governor would be gone Sunday morning to Saturday afternoon.

Roberts said Bennett and his staff did not receive any additional information about Brewer’s whereabouts.

Boy, this sounds awfully familiar, but I can’t for the life of me figure out why.

Update: Today, Brewer apparently visited an Arizona resident recovering at Walter Reed from injuries incurred in Afghanistan. What she’s up to otherwise remains a mystery.

Well, Brewer is guilty of the double crime not only of being a conservative Republican but also being (gulp) a female conservative Republican, so for obvious reasons the Fourth Estate and the academe-Internet cabal would be jumping out of their collective skins for a gotcha’ moment and for high dudgeon mode revelry.

That aside, since she was in D.C. today visiting an AZ trooper who was wounded in Afghanistan (BTW, does anyone remember Afghanistan?), and since her itinerary is all hush hush, perhaps she’s on her way to the Middle East. Maybe to a war zone. Maybe to Israel.

Doubtful it’s anything untoward. Brewer just doesn’t seem that type. But stranger things have happened, I guess, so we’ll have to wait and see.

  2. Argon says:

Meh. I find that I have no interest in her whereabouts.

@Tsar Nicholas:BTW, does anyone remember Afghanistan?

Yes, it’s where empires go to die if they stay too long.

  4. C. Clavin says:

    Brewer is NOT a Conservative.
But this isn’t even the first time today Tsar has been wrong.
    Having said that…

Whatever the real story, at least Brewer has bigger balls than the victim who typed the weak whine above…

They tried to make her go to rehab and she said, “No, no, no”

  13. @Tsar Nicholas: Wait a second, didn’t Tsar defend Mitt Romneyfor not mentioning Afghanistan nor American service personnel during Romney’s acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention?

Congratulations to Tsar for the Cognitive Dissonance Win of the Day.

Where in the world is Jan Brewer?

I heard she was hot on the trail of that sneaky little Carmen Sandiego. She wants to check her immigration documents. DREAM Act or not, Brewer is dead set on getting that little trouble-making bitch deported.
