PBS Credential Bloggers for Democratic Presidential Forum

Media Bloggers Association Logo The Media Bloggers Association, of which I’m a board member, has been asked by PBS to handle the credentialing of bloggers to cover the “ALL AMERICAN PRESIDENTIAL FORUMS ON PBS” hosted by Tavis Smiley and June 28th, 9:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. ET at Howard University in Washington, D.C. Candidates scheduled to appear next week are U.S. Senator Joe Biden, U.S. Senator Hillary Clinton, U.S. Senator Christopher Dodd, former U.S. Senator John Edwards, former U.S. Senator Mike Gravel, U.S. Congressman Dennis Kucinich, U.S. Senator Barack Obama and New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson.

According to PBS, “A second forum for Republican presidential candidates will be held on September 27, 2007, on the campus of Morgan State University in Baltimore, MD.”

Bloggers who attend will have equal access to the candidates and their staff after the debates as other media members. Those interested in applying should contact MBA president Robert Cox. Details at the link above.

I’ve been invited to attend and am weighing whether doing so is worth my time. The potential ability to question the candidates is appealing but I’m not sure whether it’s worth hanging out in D.C. until midnight to do it; the fact that the Republican forum will be ninety minutes away in Baltimore is also rather unappealing.

I think security will be pretty tight in Le Droit Park that night–no need to worry.

It would be interesting to have some conservative bloggers ask the Democrat field some tough questions.

Heh. Not worried so much about safety as staying up past my bedtime. I’m generally an early riser and seldom do much blogging after 6 pm or so.

Yeah, I was being silly–although the last time I was at Howard I was waiting for a bus and some guy started yelling, “get out of here, damn cracker,” at me!

Perhaps you could send one of your guest bloggers from OTB instead? If any of them are interested that is.

It would be nice if we could suggest questions for them to ask too.

Problem is that, other than Stotch, none of them live anywhere close.

  6. If you go, ask Hillary Rodham Clinton to recite the lyrics to the Celine Dion song. :-)
