Politinerds: Matt K. Lewis On Bill Maher, Charleston, And A Poisonous Political Media Culture

Politinerds

Our guest this week on Politinerds was Daily Caller columnist and media personality Matt K. Lewis. We talk about Matt’s experience on last week’s Real Time with Bill Maher during which he and the Daily Caller were blamed for the Charleston murders (no I am not making that up). We also get into a broader discussion of how the political media works, how it encourages people to say outrageous things, and how that is hurting our political culture.Med

And, oh yea, we get into that ugly green shirt Matt wore on HBO last Friday.

Enjoy!

Maher gives liberal atheists like me a bad rap. Can’t stand the man.

    A download option?

  3. SenyorDave says:

Let me get this straight. Someone who works for that icon of journalistic integrity, “the Daily Caller”, is whining about the poisonous political media culture.

All one needs to do is google Daily Caller and the word smear and you’ll quickly see what a poisonous political culture is.

Speaking of “journalism”, and before all this gets way out of hand, let me help it along:

Oh now I’ve got to go listen to Real Time. I note that Bill Maher has a way of p!ssing off both the left and the right. There are plenty of liberals who disike Maher too, and I for one often disagree with him.

From the Unmitigated Gall Files … Again:
A conservative complaining about our toxic political media culture. Really. Is Lewis disingenuous or just plain out of touch?

I saw the Maher Show that Matt Lewis was on, and I don’t see where Lewis has any legitimate complaint about Maher’s role in our so-called poisonous political media culture whatsoever.
Maher lets his guests speak, does not talk over them or shout them down, and Lewis had ample opportunity to speak his mind. In fact, Lewis knew all of this prior to appearing on the show, so I have no sympathy for Matt Lewis whatsoever.

  7. James Pearce says:

Can’t say I feel too bad for Lewis. He deployed a bunch of “gotcha” level stuff. “But, but a Democrat put the flag up.” “But, but you could have inspired a shooting too, Bill!”

As for the stuff about nuance, and how you can’t do nuance because you don’t get any credit for it, I have to say…and maybe this is my luxury making my living NOT opinionating on politics, but so what? Do it anyway. Yes, you’ll be slimed and misinterpreted and people will put words in your mouth. But that’s how you change minds.
