Sell-Ike

Newsweek has in interesting interview with Tom Selleck, who plays Gen. Dwight Eisenhower in an A&E television movie that will debut on Memorial Day.

Even with his head shaved and hair died gray, he doesn’t exactly evoke images of Ike.

Selleck’s now 59 years old. Magnum PI went off the air sixteen years ago. Did I mention that I’m getting old?

I saw a promo for this movie on A&E a couple of weeks ago and I was shocked when I realized that it was Tom Selleck playing Ike. And I had that same “I’m getting old” thought when I realized that he’s pushing 60. I loved Magnum PI!

I guess enough time has passed, that you don’t need someone who looks like Ike to play him.

And if you complain, it means you’re old.

Anthony Hopkins didn’t look a bit like Nixon, either. (IMHO, the only actor who does is Sean Connery, who does have the nose for it.)

In most of these cases, one is able to forget after about 10 minutes that the “look” is wrong.

That picture reminds me of another actor who was in a bunch of war movies..

I’ve got it I think–Lee Marvin (as in The Dirty Dozen, The Delta Force)
