TROOPS AS PROPS

Donald Sensing has some thoughts on the matter.

I’m not sure where to draw the lines on this one but admit that it makes me feel uncomfortable. The same goes for policemen, firefighters, and schoolchildren, by the way. Politicians love to give speeches in front of these groups because the association is so positive. On the one hand, it’s perfectly reasonable for a politician to give speeches in front of these groups and to demonstrate his support for them. But it almost always has a tacky feel to it.
