Twins Born In Two Different Years

One of the quirks of going into labor on New Year’s Eve:

ROCKFORD, Ill. (AP) — A Machesney Park couple welcomed a daughter in the last minutes of 2010 and a twin son in the first minutes of 2011.

The Rockford Register Star reports that Brandon Lewis and Ashley Fansler had baby girl Madisen Carin Lewis at 11:59 a.m. Friday at Rockford Memorial Hospital. Baby son Aiden Everette Lewis was born a minute later, at 12 a.m. on Saturday, New Year’s Day.

Well, at least they’ll be able to claim one dependent when they file their tax return this year.

Rockford IL… my old man was born (’23) and raised there during the depression.

Some of my favorite memories are of his and his siblings reminiscing (he was one of 10) about the depresion days… hanging out in the alley and smelling the scents of things they would never taste wafting down from the bakery… my Aunt Dorothy breaking her ribs in the window of a building that would never get built…

Sad thing: his twin sisters both died when they were 5 yrs old (of circumstances that were never clear to me)

I will never forget sitting on the bench along side my Grandfather’s house…. soaking up the sun on an early summers morning while he read the paper (he was a very quiet man, a strong man, a joy just to be there with him, words were not necessary)

No point to this comment, just sharing a few “Rockford IL” memories…
