14 Reasons Braves Will Win 14th Straight Title

The Atlanta Braves start the 2005 regular season this afternoon. AJC’sDavid O’Brien compiles a list of “14 Reasons Why the Braves will win their 14th consecutive division title.” The most intersesting is this one:

Chipper Jones never finishes anywhere but first. Look it up. Actually you can’t, at least not all of it. So you’ll have to trust us. Since Little League, he’s never finished a season on a team that wasn’t in first place. Closest he came was 1992, when he started the year at Durham but was promoted to Greenville. Durham didn’t finish first, but Greenville was a 100-win juggernaut that did.

That’s an incredible streak, indeed.

And Durham would have finished first that year if he’d stayed with the Bulls. I remember seeing him play.

A group of friends had a cheer where one of us would shout “Chipper!” and someone else would answer (in a Giligan’s Island’s Skipper imitation) “Little Buddy!”

Guess you had to be there.

  2. Chrees says:

The only thing easier to predict than the Braves winning another title is that they will squash all hopes yet again in the postseason.

  3. McGehee says:

I’m with Chrees. For some reason once the regular season ends the Braves forget what the coach really means when he tells them to “choke up.”

  4. David Harris says:

Remember, though, that they are back to the pitching-first mentality of the early to mid-90’s. As a Braves fan, I’m certainly looking forward to seeing John Smoltz start in the postseason again. One of the all-time clutch performers.

  5. McGehee says:

Hmmm. Mentality is all well and good.

  6. Dawn says:

I believe they will win their 14th straight title and I am eternally opptimistic that they will once again go the “Big Show”!! John had a rough night last night but true Braves fans will not give up!
