2004 NEWS: Cheery bit of news from Politics1: SHARPTON MAY MAKE INDIE RUN:

Speaking over the weekend in South Carolina, civil rights activist Al Sharpton (D-NY) told an audience he would consider running for President next year as an Independent candidate in the general elections if he does not win the Democratic nomination. Sharpton plans to compete in the Democratic contests, but wants to keep his options open. Sharpton also denounced his own party’s leaders and his opponents for failing strongly enough oppose the Iraq war. “They’re not true believers. They only want to be Republicans in Democratic clothing,” said Sharpton to The State newspaper. Republicans are likely gleeful over a potential third party bid by Sharpton.
