A Photo for Friday: “Cards”

A little deviation from the normal Photo for Friday. The photo above is of my Grandfather, Walter Arto Kinney, Jr., who passed away this past Sunday at the age of 97. His funeral will be tomorrow in Dallas. His obituary can be found here.

The above photo was taken on the occasion of his 90th Birthday party. He was playing cards with his great-grandsons. It isn’t the best photo I have ever taken, but it is one that sticks in my head. I wish I had a photo him laughing, as he had a big laugh (none bigger than when laughing at one of his own stories).

May he rest in peace.

My grandfather and I used to play Gin as tho the stakes were $1,000 a point. He never threw a game, usually won, and on the occasions where I did win his frustration at the loss was genuine which made my victory all the sweeter. It is a fond memory of mine, and my older sis still laughs at how serious we were.

    RIP Grandpa Walter.
