Will voters view Fred Thomspon’s second wife as a trophy wife? And if so, will it matter?
A photo and more discussion here.

At least Fred Thompson’s wife is better looking than Bill Clinton’s girlfriend.
Maybe he should pretend that she’s his daughter.
I just figure he must be hung like an elephant.
More GOP family values at work!
I noticed she was a looker, but it doesn’t seem to be the factor is once would’ve been. Giuliani’s situation is probably more extreme, and while it may have some affect doesn’t seem to eliminate him.
Rodney’s right, I don’t think any one of the GOP candidates will be attacking anybody else’s marital situation. And if Hillary wins her primary, she won’t have much ability to criticize either. And these are the people we want to “Protect the Institution of Marriage”?
It remains ironically the case that the only Republican front runner who has only had one wife is the Mormon.
I think it’ll be worth about 20 pts in the male 40+ voter demographic
The point in the Poliblog post about Southern Conservatives may not be that big of a deal either.
Strom Thurmond married 2 beauty queens half his age – in his first marriage, he was 44 when he married a 22 year old…. she died of cancer. In the 2nd marriage, he was 66 when he married a 33 year old.
All he ever got out of it were jokes about his virility – especially after all 3 children were born.
Age differences like that always give rise to jokes, but I don’t think it will really matter to the voters. Heck, they might even be happy to consider a first lady who doesn’t have political asperations of her own…
Of course, I still Kucinich’s wife to be hotter, but that’s just me…
I’m with legion that if we are voting for president based on “hottest wife” Kucinich would get my vote. I don’t think that it will hurt Thompson too much, but she’s going to have to change the wardrobe a bit to not look like she’s about to hit the mall and meet boys.
That they are considering the Clintons’ again rules out any vetting by Victorian standards.
I know exactly nothing about the circumstances of the Thompson’s marriage, but is it not just as likely that the senator is a ‘trophy husband’? Rich, successful, and potentially the president of the US. Maybe she ‘set her cap for him’ and snagged a meal ticket and retirement plan.
