Anthony Weiner’s Wife is Pregnant

Anthony Weiner's wife, Huma Abedin, is several weeks pregnant and desperately trying to salvage their marriage and his career.

The mini-scandal involving New York Congressman Anthony Weiner remains a minor sideshow. Two new tidbits:

NYT (“Weiner’s Wife Is Pregnant“):

Their marriage has become the subject of intense speculation and scrutiny amid an embarrassing online sex scandal.

Now, Representative Anthony D. Weiner and Huma Abedin are about to make news of a different kind: they are expecting their first child.

Ms. Abedin, 35, is in the early stages of pregnancy, according to three people with knowledge of the situation.

The pregnancy, which the couple have disclosed to close friends and family, adds a new dimension to questions about the future of their marriage.

Quite likely related from NY Post, under the wonderful headline “Weiner on wife support.”

Publicly humiliated Huma Abedin won’t ditch her lecherous husband, and is actually working overtime to help salvage his gravely wounded political career, a close friend told The Post.

She even hunkered down with disgraced Rep. Anthony Weiner in a New York hotel Monday night — an incredible show of support just hours after a blubbering Weiner confessed to three years of sleazy online flings.

“She loves her husband very much. She is committed to her husband and her marriage,” the close friend said.

She’s adamant that her husband does not resign, and is optimistic that he can continue his career as an elected official.

Frankly, even if he can get re-elected, he’s topped out at Congressman. But while a new kid might mean it’s time to cash out, the typical post-Congress paths to riches, most notably lobbying, may well be foreclosed for some time by the scandal.

  1. In an era where Client No. 9 gets a CNN prime time show barely two years after resigning in disgrace, I wouldn’t write Weiner off just yet.

  2. James Joyner says:

A fair point. Disgrace is actually a selling point in our reality TV world.

Next chapter of the soap opera: the father is Arnold Schwarzenegger.

  4. TG,

I am thinking that both Arnold and John Edwards are happy that Weiner has gotten their names out of the headlines

Is she really? Or this this a stupid PR stunt to gain sympathy for The Weiner?

Your cynicism is a force to be reckoned with!

  7. Lobbying is only a road to riches if you have connections, and based on what’s been in the news, Weiner was widely disliked by other congressional democrats even before the current scandal.

  8. mantis says:

Huma Abedin is the person wingnuts decided was Hillary Clinton’s lesbian lover back in 2007. If you check the swamps, you’ll see they are still pushing that today, claiming that the marriage and the pregnancy are all just cover.

  9. Janis Gore says:

She’s such an elegant woman, and well connected.

Should she so wish, perhaps the Clintons or other friends could find something discreet for her husband to do.
