Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
The sixth book of the Harry Potter series will be called Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, the British author J.K. Rowling revealed yesterday on a website dedicated to her schoolboy wizard creation.
Rowling showed visitors the title on her official website just as hoaxers tried to hoodwink fans into believing the new book would be called Harry Potter and the Pillar of Storge. “I nearly fell off my chair giggling,” the author said of speculation that the fake title had caused her to make a last-minute change.
On her website she said the Half Blood Prince title was the one “I have been using in my head for ages and ages”.“The HBP is neither Harry nor Voldemort (Potter’s arch-enemy),” Rowling said. “That’s all I’m saying on that subject until the book’s published.”
Well, I suppose it’s better than Harry Potter: Attack of the Clones.

Thinking “Half-Blood” has to refer to muggles and wizards would be an assumption.
I’m betting the HBP is Hagrid.
Hagrid is half-giant/half-wizard. There’s no monarchy in the wizarding world (that’s been made apparent, anyway) and as OOTP clearly shows, giants don’t, either.
According to some of Rowling’s comments on her official site, there are some significant clues in Chamber of Secrets as to who the HPB is and what the final resolution of the story line will be. But it’s been five years since I read that one and I’m damned if I can recall the details well enough to figure out what she means. Ah, well, One thing’s for sure: I’ll have plenty of time to reread all five books between now and when she finishes HPB.
I don’t think it’s been established that there are no hierarchies in the Wizard or Giant worlds. All we know for sure is there are no *ruling* monarchs. Britain, for example, still has a monarch. She does not rule, but she has a ceremonial function and serves as an ambassador to/from a handful of countries.
I get the impression that there is a kind of nobility among wizards (in the sense of a class system, not of being noble in the moral way). The old wizard caste system appears to ape the British one, as a matter of fact–which is appropriate.

If the term “half blood” does *not* refer to wizard vs. muggle blood, but rather to royal vs. standard-issue wizard blood, I’d be tempted to think it was Neville. I suspect he’s going to blossom at some point in the story and become very important in some way.

Half Blood would refer to someone who has a muggle and magical parent. I would probably say Seamus Finnigan, though Hagrid would be my second choice. I can’t think of any other half bloods important enough to the story line to be the object of the book’s title. Maybe it is someone new though. Lockhart would also be a good guess since JKR did mention the second book may give us clues to who the “prince” is… I’ll have to re-read is again…

I think that the HBP is dumbledore. Nowhere in any of the books so far that i can recall does it say that he is a pure blood wizard. maybe that is why he likes muggles so much, he himself is part muggle.
My money’s on Hagrid for the half-blood prince. Giants do have monarchies — remember the Gurg in OOTP? Also, remember that Hagrid was the supposed heir of S. in chamber, and J.K.R. did say the two book were closely related.
I am betting the half blood prince is Dumbledore. If I remember correctly, it said in one of the books he is half-blood. He is also the only one Voldemort ever feared, so thats some pretty solid evidence to back up my prediction.
I think that the half blood prince will turn out to be dumbledore, and that his brother will have a plot in this new story too!
I think that Dudley is a probable hbp. Petunia could have magcal powers..jkr said that someone would develop them later on in life, it may be her. And of course, we know that Dudley is treated no less than a “prince” by his parents. Prince could be taken metaphorically, not literally…
i think that hagrid will be the half blood prince because he is half blood. it could be dudly or petunia or dumbledore. dudly is treated like a prince. petunia might develop powers.dumbledore is really popular.
I think that if we read all of the books slowly and carefully it will lead up to it keep in mind the characters you think it is and really concentrate on them see what and who they are as you read the books. I think we’ll all be suprised.
The one thing I really want to know is how can she keep coming up with new Defence Against The Dark Arts teachers? I’d be completely stumped by now. As for the book title, at the end of the the day, i always end up reading the book and being every surprised, somewhere down the line, with the ending, so i won’t speculate and enjoy the suspense. Also, hasn’t anyone realised that HBP might even be a new character?
I don’t like the title of the book either. Half Blood Prince? Prince? Shes never really said anything about Kings and Queens and Princesses in any of her books…hmm. I think its Neville though, I just don’t see how it could be Hagrid.

She said she was thinking about the tittle for CoS. Then I got to thinking what Dobby said in about Voldemort not being involved maybe thats a hint. So who do I think it is? tom riddle
I have just reread the Chamber of Secrets and it does say that Justin Finch-Fletchley is a boy in Hufflepuff, he tells Harry that his muggle parents were thinking of sending him to Eton.well Eaton is the school where all of the princes of England are sent to school. And we all know that being King or Queen of England that you do not have to be faithful to your spouse, so I rethink my guess on who the HBP is, though I am still going to do a bit more rereading.
Neville is a pure blood. Dumbledore says as much to Harry. However, I wouldn’t be suprised if his powers developed further now that he has to buy his own wand (the one that broke in the Department of Mysteries was his father’s and wouldn’t work as well for him.) I’m prepared to be surprised by what JKR has in store in regards to Sirius’s role in death, Ron and Hermione’s developing relationship, and Petunia’s story.
It could not be tom riddle, JKR said herself that the HBP is NOT Voldemort or Harry. I think that whoever said it could be Dudley was correct. I mean, Lily was a witch, and Petunia was her sister. Therefore, Petunia may have powers as well, which would make Dudley a half-blood.

Well, all true HP fans will know that Rowling is the queen of metaphors, twists, turns, and secret meanings. There are loads of ‘Half Bloods’ in Harry Potter, but I’ve got a feeling the actual HBP means something more than just being half wizard. The person has got to be a really important character, or Rowling wouldn’t have named the entire book after that person. The most important half-blood in Chamber of Secrets is the one, the only, Tom Riddle. I thimk of Tom Riddle as a very different person to the present day Voldemort, so maybe its him. ??????. Am I sure? Of course not. We can never be sure until the next book comes out so pleeeeeeaaaaaase publish it soon!
Look…you people speculate too much. Honestly, it’s only a book & while it’s interesting to discuss, I think we’d all benefit by just waiting for the book to be published….
