BEST MOVIES SINCE 1983

Responding to Roger Simon‘s remark that none of the best movies of all time have been made in the past two decades, Daniel Drezner came up with a list of his favorite movies of the last 20 years.

Oddly, I haven’t seen at least half of the movies on Dan’s list but wouldn’t remove any of the ones I have except “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.” I never figured out what the fuss was–it was just weird and seemed rather pointless.

Not so oddly, I haven’t seen most of the movies on Roger’s list, either. I tend to prefer movies that are entertaining rather than artistic. For example, while I truly like “The Searchers” (#18), it (along with “Stagecoach,” another one that’s often cited) is among my least favorite of the big John Wayne movies. For what it’s worth, “Big Jake” is my favorite of Wayne’s flicks.
