CBS: Terri Schiavo Dead

CBS News reports that Terri Schiavo has died. They did so on March 28th. She has not, so far as we’re aware, actually died.

Radio host Glenn Beck apparently scooped this story and has a PDF screenshot from CBS’s website backing him up. Michelle Malkin has the details.

Update (1114): Commenter Phil Davis points out that this is merely a pre-written obituary, which he terms “a standard practice.” Certainly right. The error here is simply in publishing it prematurely, something that unfortunately happens with some regularity. The NYT has done it several times that I know of, for instance.

  2. Alive, But Dead
In the fine tradition of “Fake, But Accurate”, CBS erroniously reported on March 28th via their website that Terry Shiavo had died (Radio host Glenn Back grabbed a screen capture (pdf).) – then quietly removed the story absent retraction, correction…

  4. CBS News Reported Terri Schiavo Died – Two Days Ago
CBS News erroneously reported that Terri Schiavo died. On March 28, 2005. The report was pulled off the CBS website with no retraction or apology.

  5. Phil Davis says:

The screenshot states the date as March TK, 2005, which is standard abbreviation for data to come. It is obviously a pre-written obituary, which is standard practice.

  6. Bob says:

I like the fact that they know that Michael wil be at her bedside when she dies.

  7. Maniakes says:

I suspect that they just guess that he might be there, so they wrote it in knowing they could always just delete it if he turned out not to be.

heh- We have a post waiting in the draft section of Wizbang just waiting for the time of death…

So far, none of us have oopsed and fired it… fingers crossed.
