That’s rather the point, isn’t it?

Not so much that we have some special hold on The Truth as compared to our commenters, the bulk of which are likewise intelligent, informed observers of the world around us.  But the nature of the enterprise is that we have opinions of things and are trying to put them forth.  Otherwise, why would we go through all the trouble?

Aside from the fame, fortune, and throngs of loose women of course.

  1. Fortune and glory, kid. Fortune and glory.

What I fail to understand is why Zel continues to read a blog that he finds so biased, dishonest, and arrogant. On, and how *he* of all people can lecture anyone on thinking that they have a superior understanding of right and wrong.

  3. @Trumwill: I have wondered the same things. Indeed, I directly asked him today why he reads my posts (and Doug’s) if he find them so offensive. Last time I checked, he had not provided an answer.

Perhaps his browser will only go to OTB so he has no other choice.

    The loose women sound interesting.

    Masochism?

  6. Zelsdorf Ragshaft III says:

No BJ, masochism would be living with you. If I and a very few others did not comment here from time to time this would be what it appears to be and that is an echo chamber. The opinions in the comments here vary from leftish to oh my God its a communist. There was a time not too awful long ago the only far lefty was Anjin-San. Now the place is infested with em. I continue to visit here because once in a great while one of the bloggers here who is not so invested (guess which one) in leftist agenda to opine in a balanced fashion. Those occasions are becomming rare. Taylor, I just read what you have to write to see just how far off the ranch you have traveled.

There are two kinds of positions in the blog/comment ecosystem: those which are correct, and those which are defensible.

If you don’t want to look a fool it’s best to stay away from indefensible positions (or state them weakly) whether they are right or wrong. If you think you might have a position that is wrong, but nonetheless defensible, have some decency and back off.

Of course, if the stars align and you think you have a position that is both right and defensible, swing for the fences.

(The saddest thing to see are the people who come back again with the same wrong and indefensible argument, showing no movement or evolution in their own thinking.)
