Dude, Where’s Joe Biden’s U-Haul?

Well, technically not the Vice-President’s, but it was stolen:

DETROIT - A U-Haul being used by the secret service for Vice President Joe Biden’s visit to the Labor Day Rally in Detroit on Monday was stolen out of a hotel parking lot Sunday morning.

The U-Haul was stolen form the Holiday Inn parking lot in downtown Detroit on
Washington Boulevard.

The hotel has declined to comment.

You may recall that, back in October, a truck containing the President’s teleprompter and other equipment was stolen outside a hotel in Virginia. It was later returned, but in that case too the truck was in a hotel parking lot. Noticing a pattern?

Update: The U-Haul has been found:

Detroit (CNN) – A stolen rental truck packed with equipment for a vice presidential Labor Day campaign event in Detroit was found on Monday, the Secret Service said.

Agency spokesman Ed Donovan said the U-Haul truck that disappeared on Sunday from the Westin Hotel was discovered by police near Henry Ford Hospital.

Some of the contents had been recovered earlier in the day in an abandoned house and the rest appeared to be inside the truck, Donovan said.

So, that mystery is solved. And, apparently, the Vice-President stays Westins.

so much for the secret service, who needs that much “depends” anyway?

  2. MstrB says:

I would find humor if the teamsters stole it in retaliation for using a non-union driver.

  3. CSK says:

The U-Haul’s been found, in the parking lot of an apartment complex in Detroit. Some of the contents were missing, but not all. The Secret Service didn’t say what the missing items were.

I gotta’ wonder if members of Biden’s protection detail are descendents of the jokers who were in charge of President Ford’s security 37 years ago in Hardtford, Connecticut.

Maybe I’m dreaming but I thought there was actual “Film at 11:00” of the crash on the news when it happened.

A U-Haul that can be stolen is a U-Haul that could be used to conceal a bomb. The Secret Service needs to take a look at their procedures.

    Westins have comfortable beds.

…who needs that much “depends” anyway?

Dick Cheney…hmm, perhaps that would explain his frequent scowls…

  8. @michael reynolds:

I had that thought when the same thing happened to a truck attached to the President’s visit to Virginia last year was heisted from a Marriott parking lot. I don’t think either of parties involved in these two incidents had any idea whose truck they were stealing to be honest. But, this seams like a vulnerability to me that ought to be addressed.

When I rewatch RoboCop, I am always surprised by how optimistic the dystopian future of Detroit turned out.

@Gustopher: And how much the evil corporation resembles the GOP leadership.
