Firefox 1.0 Sucks

Since downloading and installing the latest version of Firefox a couple weeks ago, it now crashes on me constantly. Usually when I’ve got a whole lot of windows open and it would be the most aggravating time for it to happen. I’ve reinstalled a clean copy and there’s been no improvement.

If you haven’t “upgraded” to the latest version, I’d advise against it.

Did you uninstall all previous versions before you put 1.0 on? There are some conflicts between the previous versions.

  2. BigFire says:

Odd, I never run into any or your problem. Of course, I’m also on the near-nightly upgrade schedule…

  3. McGehee says:

The only problem I have with 1.0PR is that it won’t download and install extensions from within the program. I have to download them outside the program, and I’ve told Windows to open that file type with Firefox. That way works.

I’ve actually found 1.0PR more stable than previous versions.

I would look for some other application causing problems OR a low-grade plug-in for Firefox. I keep Firefox running 24/7 for days at a time.

  5. Bill K says:

No, I have had the same problem.

  6. Eric says:

I had some problems at first with some extensions that I had previously installed but didn’t show up when I clicked the Extensions menu item. Many of them were supposed to work with 1.0 but didn’t. I copied by my bookmarks and cookie files and did a complete uninstall of firefox and deleted the profile folder. I then re-installed 1.0, copied the files back to my newly created profile folder. I had to start over picking out my extensions but it works.

I just installed 1.0PR last night, and haven’t had any problems. I did do a clean install of all the extensions and removed the previous version. Firefox 1 experiences do seem to be falling into distinct love it/hate it camps. I wonder if it has anything to do with the latest Microsoft XP upgrades. I’m running without the XP SP2 upgrades (can’t get them to download).

  8. I’ve had the same problem. In fact, I clicked the “comment” link to report this, and guess what?

    Firefox crashed.

  9. I’ve installed it on 2xPC’s and 4xMac’s, and have not had any similar problems. I did *not* uninstall any prior versions (on the PC; the Macs overwrite the previous version).

  10. Rodney Dill says:

Hmm, I’m not having any problem with it on my work laptop, but I didn’t have a previous version on there. My Laptop is also W2K instead of XP because of other software I need.

  11. Boyd says:

I’ll concur that it sounds like a conflict with some other software, either a different program or a Firefox extension.

I’ve gotten where I prefer Firefox over IE, but some sites just don’t show up correctly in Firefox. But I’ve been running 1.0PR with virtually no problems for a month.

Where do you live in Bellevue?

  13. Yeah, it has worked on my Mac, but I am starting to like Camino more anyway.
