George W. Bush To Be Hung In White House Ceremony
Well, to be more precise, his official portrait:
George W. Bush and his wife, Laura, are expected to return to the White House later this month to be honored by President Barack Obama with the unveiling of their official portraits that will hang at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
The White House confirmed on Friday that the Bushes are slated to revisit their Washington home of eight years on May 31 for a rare joint appearance between the current and past president.
Additional details about the event, first reported by The Dallas Morning News, will be released in the next couple weeks, and we’ve put in a call to Bush’s Dallas office as well.
The ceremony, which will be the former president’s first public visit to the White House in over two years, is sure to draw lots of attention given that it’s an election year and that Bush informally endorsed Obama’s GOP rival, Mitt Romney, earlier this week.
And no, I could not resist that post title.
Nice double entendre in the title, but I figured it out instantly, without checking the post…. Not that that alway happens.
I guess this means one of the final entries in GWB’s presidential bio will read something like,
I knew it was too good to be true.
@OzarkHillbilly: Difference between the “strong” verb form, which would be “hanged” (referring to people and other live entities getting suspended by rope, wire, or other means until death), and the “weak” verb form, which is applied to what one does to pictures.
IIRC, the verb tenses are (hang, hanged, hanged) vs. (hang, hung, hung.)
Anyone remember any other strong/weak verb pairs like this? I think that’s the only one that has made it down to modern English from wherever it came from. Old Saxon?
