GETTING ON WITH IT: William Safire’s column today offers some clearheaded thinking on our relations with our erstwhile allies. While I don’t agree with all his suggestions, I do agree with his thesis: Let’s not punish democratic governments who disagree with us but instead reward those whose support we can count on. A subtle but important distinction.
