Gingrich And Santorum “Open” To Running In 2016

Both Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum are saying that they are open to the idea of running for President again in 2016:

Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich both say they are open to running for president again in 2016.

The second- and fourth-place finishers from 2012 said in separate interviews that they are open to another run, though Santorum seems more apt.

“I’m certainly leaving the door open for that,” Santorum told Newsmax. ”I’m making no commitments at this point, but we’re not doing anything inconsistent with running in 2016.”

Gingrich, meanwhile, told the National Review Online‘s Robert Costa that he is also keeping his options open.

“I don’t rule it out, but we’re not spending any energy on it,” Gingrich said.

Gingrich would be 72 years old when the 2016 election cycle starts up in 2015, so I’d find the idea of him running again to be doubtful. Santorum, of course, would be another question since he’s much younger. Nonetheless, we know that Newt Gingrich loves the spotlight and keeping the door open like this will certainly keep that spotlight on him.

In related news, Newt Gingrich also stated he was open to the idea of setting large piles of cash on fire. The former Speaker of the House stated “It’s just more efficient–the type of efficiency I will bring to the White House.”

The trouble is, while this scenario is farfetched, the prospect of another Bush vs. Clinton is not.
