HIGHWAY FROM HELL: NYT reports: Baghdad Rush Hour Begins: Cars Flee Thundering Blasts. Why they didn’t leave before now escapes me. This reminds me of 1991, when we watched a steady stream of white pickup trucks and SUVs, invariably with a red horizontal stripe on the sides, heading south from northern Saudi Arabia and from Kuwait for days and days before the January 15 deadline.
