Interview With Swift Boat Vet Van Odell

Dean Esmay has an interview With Swift Boat vet Van Odell, an enlisted sailor who served as a gunner’s mate in Kerry’s Coastal Division 11. While I’m a bit tired of this story by now, I did get a chuckle out of this:

DW: What do you say to those who say that because you were not on Lt. Kerry’s boat, you did not serve with him?

VO: [O]ur boats served in combat together, we went on missions together, we knew each other intimately and fought together. This is like saying Major Reno and Captain Benteen did not serve with General Custer because they did not ride on the same horse with him.

Indeed.
