Kathleen Blanco Not Running for Re-Election

Kathleen Blanco announced last night that she will not run for re-election as governor of Louisiana. “I am doing this so we can work without interference from election year politics,” she said. That, and the fact that she is widely regarded as an incompetent buffoon and has zero shot at winning.

The strong speculation is that popular former U.S. Sen. John Breaux will jump into the race and face Republican U.S. Rep. Bobby Jindal, who narrowly lost to Blanco in 2003, in the general election. Either way, it’ll be a monumental upgrade.

She probably sees some very profitable opportunities out there for her in the wake of her incompetent handling of the hurricane. Real Estate and development come to mind. I hope someone follows her to see if she is using her position to influence projects now that she will later be associated with.

The problem for Breaux will be that he’s a Maryland resident, not a Louisiana resident.

That sort of thing never seems to hurt people with celebrity status. And, to be fair, Breaux moved to the DC area because he was representing the people of Louisiana there for many years and stayed because that was the place where he could make a living applying his skills and contacts.
