MEDIA ABSENCE

Kevin Drum and Jeff Jarvis note the baffling underplaying of the Iranian government’s suppression of today’s planned student protests.

Especially in an era of 24-hour-a-day news channels where every local crime story nowadays seems to be given the O.J. treatment, I certainly can’t explain it. Maybe they figure they’re in competition with shows like “Naked Survivor Fear Idol VII: Debauchery in Biminy” and have to keep up?

    I agree the media is downplaying Iran, but they’re also downplaying the situation in Hong Kong. It’s as if the media has complete blinders on to world events outside of Baghdad, Israel, and Liberia (for now).
