Micali Knows Math

A colleague of OTB sponsor Phil Libin has won a presigious math award:

Dr. Silvio Micali, co-founder and Chief Scientist of CoreStreet, Ltd., a leading provider of validation solutions for identity management and access control, will receive the RSA Conference Award for Mathematics on February 24th at the RSA Conference in San Francisco. Micali pioneered the modern theory of pseudo-random generation cryptography and secure protocols. He is the inventor of CoreStreet̢۪s 14-patent core technology.

“It’s an honor to be recognized by my peers with such a prestigious award,†said Micali. “RSA Laboratories has done some wonderful work in the area of security over the years and they are truly experts in the field.â€

Micali is a professor of computer science at MIT and a world leader in cryptography. He is a member of the Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the recipient of the Goedel Prize, the highest award in theoretical computer science, which recognized his seminal invention of zero-knowledge and interactive proofs. In addition to his academic work, Micali is also a co-founder of Peppercoin, a micropayments company that enables profitable new business models for low-priced digital content and physical goods.

Other than that it has something to do with really hard math and codes, I have no idea what that means, exactly. But it sure sounds impressive!

Congrats! And I’m sure glad he’s on our side.
