MOYNIHAN CRITICAL
AP is reporting that former NY Senator Patrick Moynihan is in critical condition following a ruptured appendix. My best wishes for his recovery. While Moynihan’s voting record never matched his passionate rhetoric, he was the classic example of the politician who was widely admired by his political opponents. Intelligent, decent people with strong opinions on the issues are attracted to others with similar inclinations, regardless of the policy positions the others profess. It only becomes personal when there is the sense, as with Bill Clinton, the disagreement is about opportunism rather than honest disagreement. That’s why most of their conservative colleagues respected Moynihan and the late Sen. Paul Wellstone.
