New Contributor

Howdy, folks. I'm Butch Bracknell.

Howdy, folks. I’m Butch Bracknell. James Joyner and the brain trust at OTB have recently invited me to become a regular contributor. I hope I don’t let them down. I served 22 years in the Marines as an armor officer and then as a lawyer. I now work for NATO as an innovation, procurement, IT, and international lawyer. I attended and graduated from North Carolina, University of Maryland Law, and Harvard Law.

My topics will likely focus on law, ethics, innovation, sports, and the intersection between law and policy, but I won’t limit myself to those topics, per James’ invitation. First post going up now.

I welcome all connections on LinkedIn.

EVERY opinion on OTB is mine alone and should not be attributed to NATO or any other organization to which I might be or might have been associated.

Welcome aboard. Have fun. Don’t take it as personal when we argue with you. A small suggestion – You’re not obligated to engage with every contrary comment.

Welcome. I approve of the alliterative name, and think that Steven Taylor and Doug Mataconis should be renamed for alliteration. It’s so obvious now, even though it never occurred to me before.

Welcome, and a question. You mentioned that you were an

innovation, procurement, IT, and international lawyer.

Those things seem pretty far apart. How does it work in practice?

Man, the jokes just write themselves at that point…

Anyway, welcome! Looking forward to it.

    Another belated welcome.

@MarkedMan: they’re not as dissimilar as you might imagine, and really I just picked a couple skills out of the NATO general counsel hat.
