Presumably, he didn’t want to have one of those embarrassing “local costume” photos that typically come out of these meetings circulating in an election year. But the guayabera and similar shirts have been a staple of the American male summer wardrobe for decades.

I suppose he could be wearing one under the jacket. Although I thought the “silly local costume photo-op” exercise was just an ASEAN thing.
