Former President Bill Clinton will undergo quadruple bypass surgery later on Friday, television networks reported.
ABC and CBS television reported that Clinton, 58, had checked in to the hospital for quadruple heart bypass surgery.
CNN reported that the former Democratic president was undergoing tests at New York Presbyterian hospital after experiencing chest pains.
My father had a triple bypass at the same age. It’s a major procedure but relatively routine these days. My best wishes for Mr. Clinton’s recovery.
Update: See Slate‘s Explainer for a quick primer: How Does Bypass Surgery Work? What they’ll do to Clinton’s heart.

Dear President Clinton:
( we wish you were still president!)
Congratulations on your successful by-pass surgery. Did someone send you a peach pie?
Saw you at the book signing in Berkeley at Cody’s – I was way back in the crowd but it was great to see you. We love your book, and use a lot of your sayings.
This experience will definitely give you a story to tell…
My wife works with low-income job seekers, and shared your comment about public service giving people better stories to tell. Her group of mainly immigrant men and women were very moved by that statement – for many of them, it was the first time they thought of anyone wanting better stories for themselves and their families.
You continue to touch a lot of people. Thank you for all you’ve done – and do – for the country, and everyday people like us.
Our thoughts are with you and Hillary and Chelsea… Get well soon.
PS No more french fries for a while. OK?(
(my husband is a recovering french fry addict)

I will put President Clinton and his family on my prayer list.
This country desperately needs another president like president Clinton to regain it’s position in this world that we had when President Clinton was in office.
