SADDAM: LIVE OR MEMOREX?

MSNBC is reporting the release of a new Saddam Hussein audio tape. No confirmation yet that it’s authentic or actually recorded lately. One would think that video tape would be the way to go if the aim is to prove you’re alive.

  1. Jimbo says:

The reason he is not on video (presumably) is because he does not want us knowing what he looks like right now in case he ever sticks his head out of the hole he is hiding in…

  2. James Joyner says:

    Jimbo,

That or he’s horribly disfigured. But it does make the credibility of the tapes rather suspect.

  3. Jimbo says:

Horribly disfigured is also a fine alternative! I think even a clearly audible voice recording that could be easily scrutinized and verified would help his credibility. When we see him on video it’ll be because we are pulling out or we are closing in…my completely uninformed opinion, of course…

  4. Bryan Costin says:

It’s possible that he is disfigured, but I’m personally doubtful that Saddam’s alive if he can’t manage a videotape of some sort. Not even a dubious one in the vein of Al-Qaeda’s latest “Springtime for Osama” voiceover.
