SAFETY AND MONEY

WaPo fronts a piece on the Columbia investigation with the link “Did Budgets Eclipse Safety?” The internal headline sums up the story: “Bonuses for A Safe Return, Fees for Loss Of Mission.” This is classic clueless journalism. Don’t we ALWAYS balance costs and safety? For example, the cars on the NASCAR circuit have a lot more safety equipment than their factory showroom counterparts. Aren’t we sacrificing safety to for the sake of budget when we fail to install roll cages in every car on the street? Of course we are.
