Scott Peterson Fan Club

Despite death sentence, Peterson said to be ‘cheerful’ — Flood of fan mail helping him keep his spirits up, jailers say (MSNBC)

Scott Peterson remains cheerful despite being sentenced to death just days ago, buoyed in part by the constant flow of fan mail he continues to receive, the San Mateo County sheriff said Thursday. Peterson’s demeanor hasn’t changed since he was transferred months ago from Stanislaus County to the San Mateo County Jail, even after jurors found him guilty of two counts of murder, Sheriff Don Horsley said during a news conference. On Monday, the jury recommended he be sent to California’s death row. “He has been his normal self. He is very cheerful. He is very compliant and very helpful,†Horsley said, adding that jailers describe him as a model prisoner. “When we move him from one area to the next, they do have to put restraints on him and he helps them,†Horsley said. “He’s not suicidal.†He added, however, that Peterson has lost “a lot of weight.†“I told him … ‘Scott, you’ve lost weight. Is the food bad?â€Ã¢€™ Horsley said. “He said, ‘No, it’s actually better than in Stanislaus County.â€Ã¢€™

“He gets a lot of mail,†the sheriff said. “He does have a fan club.â€

Meanwhile, Regan Books announced Thursday it had signed a deal with Peterson’s mistress, Amber Frey. The book is due to go on sale Jan. 4. “I am very gratified that Regan Books has agreed to publish Amber’s story,†said Frey’s attorney, Gloria Allred. “We think her story of courage in crisis will inspire others who have been betrayed to fight back for truth and justice.â€

So, Scott Peterson, a convicted double murderer, has a fan club and his mistress and the odious Gloria Allred are getting rich. As Don King would say, Only in America.

Now we have some measure of understanding why Kerry had suporters.

    Pure idiocy.

  2. Zed says:

Well in regards to Frey’s book lets think about this for a second. Yes, it’s gross exploitation of a tragedy BUT, what is she really suppose to do for money, she is marked for life. It would be very hard for her to get a real job, perhaps this book is the only way she can support herself. Then so be it. Is she any worse than all the people who will buy the book?

  3. Zed says:

One more thing, no one cried foul when Giuliani surfed the hero wave from 9-11 to get rich off his book.

  4. James Joyner says:

Well, Giuliani was a hero who led a major city through the biggest crisis in half a century. Peterson, by contrast, is a double murderer, and Frey almost certainly helped plan and cover up those crimes. And Allred is, well, Allred.

  5. Zed says:

I understand where your coming from but Giuliani still got rich off a national tragedy. That is how I am programed to see it.

And this is the very first I am hearing that Frey “helped plan and cover up those crimes”.

I don’t recall any thing like that ever being brought up. Maybe I missed something.

  6. Kent says:

That is how I am programed to see it.

But can you pass the Turing test?

  7. McGehee says:

Zed, your programming is faulty. Giuliani didn’t cause the evil thing from which he arose a hero. Peterson did.

    Jeez.

  8. Zed says:

If you have no better arguement then to insult, then you are no better than those who profit off the blood of innocents.

Rudy did nothing anyone else wouldn’t do. Did he save a life, no, he made money off the dead.

  9. Mark says:

I remember reading how the Menendez brothers (those guys who killed their parents) got fan mail. Heck, one of the brothers ended up marrying a “fan.” I give Scott a year before he marries one of these sickos.

    Only in America, indeed.

  10. JakeV says:

Frey “almost certainly” helped Peterson plan and carry out the murder? I haven’t been following the case, but that’s a new one for me– where’s that idea come from?

(I see that Frey’s autobiography is being published by Giuliani’s business partner’s ex-lover.)

  11. Attila Girl says:

I’m also curious about where your info comes from regarding Amber Frey. She cooperated with the police to help put him behind bars. The way I got the story, she didn’t even know Peterson was married when she was seeing him.

  12. Paula says:

To think that Scott Peterson, a murderer, has fans of any kind simply floors me. Frey is innocent, so re-program yourself to be honest and stop making things up. People always make money on both good or bad, that doesn’t make it right, but it will continue to happen no matter how much we complain about it. My only wish is that Scott Peterson get what he deserves…I wish they would suffocate him, put weights on him and throw HIM in the ocean…but wait..I think being on death row and “waiting” to die may be better punishment… alot longer to think about it…maybe he will keep losing weight and will starve himself to death first and not waste the taxpayers money!

  13. Tasha says:

I, for one, think that Scott Peterson is completely innocent!! Thsi isn’t like O.J. Simpson, where we had circumstantial evidence and all that…he is completely innocent in my book and even though everyone I know thinks I am crazy, I think Scott was dealt an unfair punishment and until someone has the hardcore evidence to prove it I know he has been wrongfully accused!!

  14. Allison Lifson says:

This comment is for Paula… You are crazy if you think that Scott Peterson is not guilty! Why did he have $50.000 on him and dye his hair and want to leave the country? I’m sorry…. I hope he suffers! Allison Lifson Laconia, NewHampshire

  15. Suzie G. says:

Allison–That does not mean he was guilty. I’ve been through the legel system here in CA and know many innocent people are locked up for crimes they did not commit. To say,”I hope he suffers”, is a sick commit. Do you gain enjoyment out of other people’s suffering? Instead of hoping for that why don’t you hope that the parents stop suffering( both her’s parents and his).

  17. Suzie G. says:

The problem with all this is there was not enough to find him guilty of 1st degree murder. I think there was enough to question his guilt but not enough to say he was the killer. I think he was covicted by emotions rather then facts. The jury looked at the pictures of Laci, after washing a shore, to reach a vertict. What happened to Laci is sad and sick, but did it prove Scott was the one that caused it? There was a man released 2 years ago here in the Bay Area that had spent over 15 years in prison for killing his girlfriend. He was finally able to prove he didn’t do it all these years later. He was only given under $500,000 from the state of CA for locking him up all those years. Things aren’t always the way they appear.

  18. Paula says:

I wonder if anyone in the fan club would go for a boat ride with Scotty?

  19. berlis says:

For all of those who think Scott is guilty I wish you could just let the rest of us know, where, how, when, and why he did this? Without those answers how can you put a man on death row?

  20. Shirley says:

I’m a Mother and a Grandmother and I also will be writing Mr. Peterson. I also am one of those people that believe he did not get a fair trial.I say shame on the juors, shame on our system period, shame on the media. People if they can do this to Mr. Peterson- our system can give anyone an unfair trial. We should never convict any one on feelings. Look at Martha Stewart-She never got a fair trial either. I’ve been watching T.V. lately where alot of innocent people are convicted. I hope the higher Courts are not afarid of the Media and the Lynch Mob to do the right thing.

  21. Kim says:

Clearly Scott’s trial was based on feelings/emotions and not on actual evidence. Our judicial system is supposed to be based on evidence found, which WAS NOT displayed throughout the entire trial. The only thing Scott was guilty of was having an affair, which is not right, but even our former President was guilty of that. Scott is innocently sitting behind bars only because of the media. Oh, and I would have dyed my hair and attempted to leave if I had media/people camping out at my house watching my every move day and night.

  22. Star says:

Does anyone know what the letter said that Scott send Amber Fry from prison?

  23. Linda says:

I feel for Scott Peterson. He cheated on his wife and now he’s getting the death sentence. I hope to God the judge gives the okay for a retrial. It was very sad. Lacy was killed. I just don’t think he did it. He may not have loved her like when they were first married but that doesn’t mean he KILLED her! I just wish there would have been some more evidence that proved he did it.

    Poor guy!

  24. nicole says:

Has anyone ever thought that scott might if hired a hit man to kill his wife and child. Just seems like to me that someone in a right state of mind to kill their own pregnant wife and child would go crazy after seeing them lay there dead. I believe he had something to do with it. but did not commit the act himself. The hitman probley just framed him because he never got his 50,000 that scott was traveling with.

  25. Jim P says:

I agree with many of you. I feel Scott got a bum deal. Maybe he lied and cheated, but how many of us havent to some degree? For him to be put on deathrow, there should be absolute proof that he is responsible, and there is none! I wish I could help Scott, and yes, I would go on a boat ride with him..

  26. Kim says:

I forgot to add this to my prior comment (and it is directed to Paula): Yes, I would go for a boat ride with Scott.
