“Scumbag Woodstock”

How’s that Libyan intervention working out? Here’s one evaluation, reported by Eli Lake at The Daily Beast:

An American counter-terrorism official used a different metaphor to describe the situation. “Libya today plays host to members and associates of several AQ-allied groups, in some ways becoming a jihadist melting pot,” this official told The Daily Beast. “These groups haven’t united under the same banner, but the ad hoc links and intermittent cooperation among them are worrisome, especially as some of these groups have made no secret of their desire to conduct attacks beyond Libya’s borders.”

An unnamed military contractor quoted by Mr. Lake describes today’s Libya as “scumbag Woodstock”.

Instability is not our friend and I believe we should be more cautious before embracing it.

“American counter terrorism officials” know how precarious their employment situation is too. When one of them says “no real big danger at the moment”, know that The Rapture is nigh.

If we were thinking of nation building we would have gone in there. This was a coalition of odd bedfellows who simply did not want to go through another round of “bad Gaddhafi”, which was pretty damn bad. The Arab Spring was probably a terrible thing to happen to Libya. The old man was mellowing out and at least one of his sons appeared sane, but it is what it is. Those people rose up . He would have slaughtered them, and there would have been “instability”.

Funny, from what I’ve read about the former Blackwater, the phrase “scumbag Woodstock” would fit a lot of those companies as well.
