Site Tweaks and Testing

The site has been having intermittent server issues even though I moved it to a very robust virtual private server (VPS) a couple of weeks ago. Mark Jaquith has been tweaking it under the hood, including an upgrade to WordPress 2.0, and the page loads at lightning speed at times but is still very sluggish when getting heavy requests. Mark temporarily removed inline trackbacks, which cause a substantial number of requests on mySQL, and will be experimenting with some other things to see if we can isolate the problem.

Update: Problems still not solved, as the site has been incredibly sluggish all morning on both the posting and viewing sides. We’re continuing to work this.

    You’re in good hands with Mark… 🙂

    (1) The pop-up for comments has a white background now. Not a problem, but FYI.

    (2) Clicking “Show Comments Here” produces fuzzy, almost unreadable text, at least on IE 6 or whatever.

Thanks–I’ll pass this on to Mark.

  4. Mark Jaquith says:

    Anderson,

Thanks for the report. The pop-up comment styles have been fixed, and I’ve removed the “fade in” portion of the “Show Comments Here,” which should fix that fuzzy text issue. Strange though, works fine on IE here… may have to do with your video card… but we want it to be as compatible as possible!
